Disaster emergencies

Good afternoon friends.

You may be interested to know that in light of 11 tornadoes and massive flooding in the past two weeks I have signed onto a letter of support to the National Emergency Grant (NEG) application submitted to the Department of Labor by the state of Indiana on June 10, 2008. 43 of the 92 counties in the state have been declared “disaster emergencies” by Indiana Governor Mitchell Daniels. It is anticipated that as many as an additional 10 counties will be added to this number.

The NEG application submitted by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development will fund temporary job creation associated with the clean-up, restoration and humanitarian assistance efforts to be provided to individuals and businesses affected by the weather events. In this letter, I expressed my strong support of the application and reiterated the shared commitment of the Indiana congressional delegation and the state of Indiana in ensuring that these dislocated workers and affected businesses receive the assistance needed to recover from these catastrophic weather events.
